Every transformation begins with a choice. Choices is the first seed in the Kronos story.

Choices is a 36-minute film created for men and women who have recently entered a correctional facility. During the early days of incarceration, people often focus on surviving their new environment. Few are thinking about who they could become.

Choices invites them to consider a different possibility. The film does not offer therapy. It does not diagnose problems. It does not provide rehabilitation programming. Instead, it challenges inmates to ask a simple question: What if I used this time to become a different person?

Through a unique blend of storytelling, illustration, narration, and imagination, Choices encourages inmates to begin looking beyond their current circumstances and toward their future. Some will respond. Some won’t. That has always been the nature of personal change.

At the center of the film is an elderly prison inmate known only as 74363. He is a lifer, incarcerated for five decades. He is not a counselor, teacher, or therapist. He is a seed planter.

Drawing upon the lessons of his own life, 74363 challenges new inmates to rethink how they view their incarceration. His message is direct, honest, and practical: prison time can become wasted time, or it can become preparation time. The choice now belongs to the inmate.

Correctional facilities across the country offer educational programs, vocational training, faith-based initiatives, life-skills classes, and many other opportunities for growth. Yet programs only matter if inmates decide to participate. Choices was designed to encourage that decision.

The film’s purpose is to help inmates recognize that meaningful change can begin during incarceration rather than after release. When that realization occurs, they are more likely to take advantage of the resources already available to them. Choices is not the destination. It is the invitation.

The Kronos Project seeks to make Choices available through the growing network of secure tablet platforms used in correctional facilities throughout the United States. Our vision is simple: Place a message of possibility into the hands of inmates when they need it most.

Choices is currently in development. The screenplay has been written and a detailed Concept Note outlining the film’s vision, storyline, production approach, and distribution strategy is available upon request.
